Restaurant Review: Domo Sushi

This is by far one of the best sushi places in Hampton Roads!  I'd even say that it's one of the best sushi places I have ever been to.  The prices are decent, the staff (at least at the Va Beach location) are friendly and prompt with service.  They have a delightful array of various entrees, as well as a full picture sushi menu.  The great thing about Domo is that they have more than just sushi.  They have traditional Asian cuisine, Japanese steak, as well as a selection of tempura and teriyaki dishes.  Their simple rolls range from $2.50 to $5.00 and their house rolls can range from $5-$10.50.  My faves are their BlackJack Roll and the Granby Street Roll.  I wish I had pics, but unfortunately, I forgot my camera the last time I was there and the inturwebz doesn't really have much to offer.
However, one doesn't need to see it to believe it.  You can take my word for it, or you can march your happy ass down there and see for yourself.

Family Fave Friday: Domino's Pizza.

Okay, I know this looks like a copout, but I SWEAR Domino's is a Family Fave.  Up until about six months ago, every Friday was Domino's Pizza time at our house.
Get the door...it's a college student with no future.
We still do this from time to time, but pizza Fridays has become less of a tradition and more of a special event.  But, honestly, Domino's has been a fave of mine since this guy was their mascot...
Yes, me and Domino's have a bit of a history.  Not to mention that my parents go to church ON Domino's HQ property.  In fact, Tom Monaghan, the creator and former owner of Domino's Pizza funded the building of my parents' church.  But I digress...
Most of the time we get Hawaiian Pizza, due to my daughter Amelie's love of ham, which in turn is due to her obsession with thinking she is the title character from the movie Ponyo, who also loves ham.
We often try to take advantage of their $5.99 for two or more medium 2-topping pizzas. The only roadblock we usually have is, of course, our oldest and most food picky daughter, Audrey.
seriously?
Yup, her discriminating tastes often force us to get one of Domino's tasty pasta breadbowls.
Fortunately, Domino's also has online deals for mix and match with three of either sandwiches, breadbowls, or medium pizzas.

The best thing about Domino's now is the new crust.  I was a major fan before, now it's near obsession.  It almost reminds me of Hungry Howie's,

which unless you are from Michigan or Ohio, you probably have never had...which I find sad.

Anyway, join us next time for a review of one of my new favorite restaurants in Hampton Roads.

What The Eff Is That Thursday: Calamari with Broccoli Rice

Just in case you were wondering...
"what the eff is that mound of weird green stuff" in the last pic I posted yesterday...

I've decided to share with you one of the most interesting culinary experiences I've had in my travels with the Navy (even moreso than the haggis I had in Scotland which I will most likely blog about next week).
Now, when I ordered this supposed delicacy of Brazil, I was expecting some squid rings with some rice and a few trees of broccoli on the side or somethign of that ilk.  Instead, I was served this Half Dome-esque creation that you see pictured here.

New House...New Kitchen! New way to make burgers?

We just moved into a new house...

with a much nicer and larger kitchen ...
I'm almost afraid we'll have to change the title of this blog! Well...maybe not...
Anyway, today I'm going to share my first cooking experience in our new kitchen.  It was not our first meal here, just the first I cooked.  So without further ado...
Homemade burgers!!!
But wait, Dave, you are thinking.  You've already done an entry about homemade burgers...
True, but that was a Wordless Wednesday...I'm gonna talk about these ones.
As we have just moved in, I did not have my usual seasonings at my disposal...okay, so I once again started prepping the meat before CHECKING that I had everything I needed.  So I got creative....
The ingredients from left are nutritional yeast, red pepper flakes, Panko breadcrumbs, sesame seeds, "woostah", black pepper, Newman's Own Mango Tango salsa, also added, but not pictured: one egg and crushed up blue corn tortilla chips.  Yeah, I know, ghetto, right?

They tasted AWESOME!  Despite their Frankensteined creation, they turned out juicy and delicious, especially when topped with Sweet Baby Ray's Honey Barbecue sauce.

Join me next time when I talk about some of the foods I enjoyed on my recent trip to Brazil!
